Peru Praises Aug 2010
Praises From Peru
We want to share with you some of the wonderful things God did during our 12 days in Peru and thank you so much for your prayers.
We started off in Lima with our third annual Glory Invasion 3-night conference with day sessions as well. The pastors and leaders that came including several from jungle cities received prophetic words from our team that brought fresh encouragement. Jim, Jerame Nelson, Claudio Zolla, and Kathy’s brother, Johnny Enlow each shared and the many hungry youth that came were caught up in His presence night after night. Johnny taught on the 7 Mountains and did impartation over each one with Joseph’s mantle. Claudio once again brought a message of hope and passion to the youth. We were blessed to be able to pray over several government officials, including some running for mayor and former general of combined armed forces of Peru.
Our team became part of a political campaign in Puente Piedra, a large very poor district north of Lima, where we prayed for the candidate for mayor and his team. Then we traveled through the district to 5 locations where groups of people were waiting for Pepe to show up and after he spoke we took advantage of the crowd and microphone to share a quick salvation message!! People were chanting, “Pepe, si, otros, no!” and I think some thought Jim was Pepe!! These were new strategies for evangelism as we prayed with over 300 people for salvation. We also had bought notebooks and pencils and distributed them to the children waiting in each place as school was starting in a few days and they didn’t have money for school supplies in this very needy area.
Our team traveled by bus to Wilma’s house where we dropped off clothes and school supplies for the 350+ kids she works with. Then we loaded up the huge pots of rice and ‘carapulcra’ a favorite dish, and took them up the dusty hills to where about 85 children and their moms were waiting. We shared the gospel with them, played with the children, and fed them lunch.
We almost missed one of the most unusual and best meetings held in Carabayllo, another poor district we had been to previously. The youth had been taught how to worship and continued long after we arrived. As Jim climbed the platform to speak he was overcome by God’s presence which spread from the platform to the crowd. As this drunken glory presence invaded we saw something unusual in Peru…laughter that broke out spontaneously. Many were set free this night and there was a new glow on many faces as they experienced new freedom!
After traveling about 8 hours by bus and plane we arrived in Piura in northern Peru. We could feel the excitement and expectancy that night as we entered the Lion’s Club building for united meeting with 19 pastors and their people and there was standing room only. They had many special numbers on their schedule, including Princesita Mily, who used to sing secular music, but now sang for the Lord.
Our favorite spot was Sechura, a smaller city an hour from Piura, where we went each afternoon to main plaza to pray for the sick, held a medical campaign, and did a small children’s show. At night the plaza was full with hungry people, a crowd of 5-6,000 each night, which was broadcast live on two TV stations. The first night the lights went out, no sound or lights, but the crowd stayed on. So we called our bodyguard, Comando, with a booming voice and he shouted out a salvation message to the crowd. It was a good thing he’s an evangelist and is ready in season or out! During his altar call the lights came back on! So we sang and worshiped some more and the people didn’t want to leave, they loved the presence of the Lord they were feeling. Jerame began praying for the sick and the first 6 deaf people that came forward all were healed instantly! The second night in Sechura there were 3 men that had metal or screws that dissolved in their legs or knees! One man, a port official, who had come to hear Princecita Mily sing, said he’d had surgery and a metal plate put in his leg from major car accident. He was afraid to go back to surgery to have it removed, had backslid and wept as he saw a demonstration of God’s love drawing him back to the Lord. He rededicated his life back to the Lord and we saw him the next day, weeping as he told us his story.
We drove farther north to Talara and held two nights of crusade in the main plaza and Miranda Nelson joyfully gave the salvation message (Kathy translated) with people riveted to her simple message. We had an awesome harvest of over 2500 decisions for Christ just in the two crusades in Sechura and Talara. The last night in Talara, Jim invited all the young people from the crowd of close to 6000 people to come forward to worship and dance in the ‘Pool of Bethesda’. As they got free in worship, many were also set free of demonic spirits, that manifested as they came out. There were too many healings and miracles to begin to write them all, but we give all the glory to Jesus! Once again the people didn’t want to leave as they basked in His glorious presence, which had invaded their city.
